This painting by Palmer Hayden is called Midsummer Night in Harlem (1938).  Winner of the Harmon Foundation Prize in 1926 from his practice in France, Hayden returned to America and protrayed the African American experience, both rural and urban, painting within that narrative the ups and downs of American life.
